NEWTOWN arrested their alarming JD Cymru Premier slump with a battling goalless draw at home to Bala Town on Saturday.
A rare Saturday match failed to yield much entertainment for either set of supporters as the game petered out into a goalless stalemate.
Aeron Edwards’ low drive was parried away by home goalkeeper Sam Ussher in the first real opening of the game with the young custodian also gathering Max Peate’s powerful headed effort soon after.
Newtown gradually got into the game with George Hughes’ low long range drive parried away by goalkeeper Joel Torrance before Callum Roberts was denied by the woodwork following a threaded throughball from Ryan Pryce.

Ussher was called upon to parry away Eddie Clarke’s low left wing drive across goal and Edwards’ follow up as the Lakesiders began the second-half on top.
However the match petered out with little to entertain the crowd until nine minutes from time when George Newell saw red after elbowing Shane Sutton.
Newtown almost capitalised at the death only for Aaron Williams to curl wide from the edge of the area.
Newtown: Ussher, C Roberts (Oswell 75), Sutton, Evans, Lock, Ismael, Williams, Harries, Hughes (Hollinshead 90), Pryce, D Smith. Subs: Swindell, C Smith, A Roberts, McCann
