MATT Burton has returned to the helm of Guilsfield.

The former Ellesmere Rangers boss joins following a break from the game having represented Port Vale as a youngster before going on to play for Stafford Rangers and Rhyl.

Burton has previously managed the Clos Mytton club and enjoyed a brief spell at the helm in 2014.

Burton takes over from Nathan Leonard who departed last month to join the coaching staff at JD Cymru Premier side Newtown.

A club spokesman said: “ We are delighted to have been able to secure the services of Matt for the season following an unsettling time for the club in pre-season.

“We have put all that behind us, thanks to the work carried out by Jason Brindley and Bernie Jones over the summer to keep making the club an attractive proposition for a new manager.

“Matt knows the club well and has worked with many of the players here, and has already stamped his mark on the playing side with a few additions to our small squad.

“We are pleased that he has full confidence in the backroom staff which was already in place. The players have enjoyed working with Matt in the interim period and now this transition period is over, we can now look to move forward with him on a firmer footing with league and various cup matches to focus on.”

Guilsfield earned a place in the third round of the Central Wales Cup with a 3-0 win at home to Llandrindod Wells on Tuesday.

Aaron Lloyd opened the scoring early on before new signing Callum Graybrook doubled the lead from the penalty spot and Joe Haycock added a third before the break to ensure no way back for the Spamen.

Burton has completed the double transfer of defender Sean Jones and midfielder Callum Graybrook who both join the ranks from Caersws.
