BUILTH Wells Cricket Club ended 30 years of hurt by winning the GB Liners Marches League One title on Saturday.

The unbeaten Garth Road club edged a one wicket win at Kington last week to be crowned champions.

The success is all the more poignant with the Marches League ending this summer and being absorbed into the Warwickshire League set-up.

The championship was also all the more remarkable as Sam Buckler featured in the last Builth team to lift the title.

The club end its season at home to Dales on Saturday and skipper Dylan McPhee invited townspeople to Garth Road fora barbecue and drinks to mark the accomplishment.

“Builth Wells has a fantastic sporting community spirit and people back its clubs,” said McPhee. “We hope to see as many down the field on Saturday for our final game and celebrations.

“The club is looking strong on and off the park and I would like to thank Lindelhile Yeki in particular for his role this season, he has been great on match day but also fantastic off the pitch in supporting Paul Rowe coaching the youngsters.”

McPhee said it had been a tough campaign with Builth emerging the team to beat.

“We are still unbeaten and want to keep that going on Saturday,” said McPhee.

“We have had a tough run in but we are looking forward to Saturday and hopefully we can win in front of big crowd.

“With the Marches League disbanding at the end of the season this title win means even more to everyone at the club and we hope to build on this when we join the Warwickshire League set-up next summer.”
