THE Mid Wales League South has been mothballed once again.

The league, which covers Brecknock and Radnorshire and operates at level five of the Welsh football pyramid, folded in 2023 after more than six decades.

It had been hoped the forthcoming season would see the league rise again but the Central Wales Football Association (CWFA) has decreed the league would not be viable.

Mid Wales League South spokesman Alan Randall said: "I attending a CWFA Officers meeting last night. The CWFA decided that The MWLS was not viable with only four confirmed entrants.

OTHER NEWS:

"The CWFA decided to give permission to Talgarth Town, Brecon Town and Hay St Mary's Reserves to play in South Wales for one season only.

"As secretary of the MWLS I had heard nothing from St Harmon or Brecon by the cut off date of July, 31st. I was very disappointed by this. Talgarth had appealed against the CWFA decision to the FAW."

It is expected Builth Wells Reserves and Llandrindod Wells Reserves will enter the MMP Central Wales League South at level four while Rhayader Town Reserves will opt for the Montgomeryshire League or even Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League.

Mr Randall added: "The MWLS Executive Committee is extremely disappointed the league will not run but without the commitment from Brecon and Talgarth it was always going to be hard. And I personally was disappointed in St Harmon."
