The first weekend in August sees the World Enduro Championship return to mid Wales after a 16 year absence.

Thein Enduro GP of Wales is being hosted by Rhayader Motor Cycle & Light Car Club in partnership with Saintswell Events. 

Rhayader Motor Club  first ran a round of the World Enduro Championship back in 1992 and the club has since carved out a deserved reputation as one the UK's leading motorcycle clubs. 

The action packed event starts on August 2nd and runs until August 4th with competitors covering a 200 mile route over the weekend.

The Paddock, Super Test and Cross Test are based at Cwmythig Hill, near Rhayader and the event uses the Abbeycwmhir forests to link in with Saintswell Enduro Centre where the extreme and enduro tests will be situated.

The event has attracted competitors from all over Europe, America, New Zealand, Australia and Chile. 

The entry is headed by Britain’s World Champions of Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman with stiff competition from series leader, Spainard Josep Garcia and Italian Andrea Verona. 

The event will also include for the first time a round of the Womens World Enduro Championship which is currently led by Spainard Mireia Badia as the current world champion with British hopes relying on Rosie Rowett and Nieve Holmes.

“Everyone in the UK knows how good Rhayader Club enduro events are, and how strong the club is, said nine time world champion Steve Holcombe. "The fact that they're organising an Enduro GP World Championship event in 2024 is great news.

"For all the British riders, all the British enduro fans, it's going to be an event to remember. I can't wait to ride on British soil - the Enduro GP of Wales is going to be an amazing weekend.”

Meanwhile Adam Rees, Enduro GP of Wales event director said the event would boost the mid Wales economy by more than £1m.

He said: "The event stands to bring in the region of 1 million pounds to mid Wales with hotels, holiday lets and camp sites all filling up for the event as well visitors using local pubs, restaurants, shops and local attractions.
