POWYS' top women's football club has unveiled a new manager.

Llanfair United will be led by the vastly experienced Gwynfor Edwards next season as the ex-Carno and Machynlleth boss looks to mastermind to greater fortunes for the Adran Genero North club.

Edwards arrives at Mount Field from local rivals Welshpool Town who he wished well in their own bid to consolidate in the North Wales League next season.

Edwards said: "It’s a huge privilege to take over at Llanfair, having watched them last season I know the talent they have in the squad is incredible.

"There will be a few signings arriving in the next couple of weeks, but only a small amount, the quality we have at Llanfair means we’re now only seeking the best of the best."

Edwards said the decision to join Powys' top club was an easy decision to make in one respect as he aimed to manage the club at a higher standard.

He added: "We know we can challenge the top sides in our league and there’s a certain cup we’ve got our eye on."

County Times: Edwards also thanked his former club and wished Welshpool Town all the best going forward.

"I’d also like to thank Welshpool for the support and a wonderful season where we grew tremendously as a side," said Edwards. "The club were very good to me."

Edwards was welcomed to Mount Field by joint club captain Mary Bailey.

She said: "I am really looking forward to the season ahead, new manager, new season with fresh ideas and fresh eyes.

"We are keen to encourage and develop squad numbers and our progression throughout the league.
