IT HAS been an impressive start to the season for Matthew Higgins who has made his debut in GT cars, racing in the Aston Martin GT4 for Forsetti Motorsport.

The season started at Donnington Park just a couple of weeks ago where the youngster from Trefeglwys had an almost flawless weekend.

In just his first weekend racing cars, Higgins put it on pole during Sunday’s qualifying followed by a win in the endurance race alongside his teammate and in the solo sprint race.

The Forsetti Motorsport duo left round one at Donnington leading the championship.

Higgins carried this momentum into last weekend where he was competing at Brands Hatch for round two of the championship, a track where he had not previously driven.

The duo carried a 20 second success penalty through into the first endurance race but nevertheless still secured a podium in Saturday’s race.

On Sunday, Higgins took to the wheel of the Aston Martin GT4 for the majority of the day where he put it on pole position in qualifying.

The duo’s pace shone through in the endurance race where they took the victory with over a 25 second lead.

Higgins rounded off the day by securing the win in the solo sprint race, where he also set the fastest lap.

After a stellar Sunday with a clean sweep, Higgins was awarded driver of the weekend and extended the duo’s championship lead.

He said: “It’s a mega feeling to be leading the championship after having so much success in my first two GT4 races. I feel like I managed to hit the ground running in the category and was able to get to grips with the car and the race formats with limited testing.

“I really can’t thank all my sponsors enough for making this season possible Race Keeper, Era Motorsport, Gallant, Managed Way and Rocket Leisure. I’m hoping to carry the same momentum forward into the rest of the season.”
