MAESYRHANDIR Football Club could be set to re-form after several years in the wilderness.

The Newtown-based club confirmed efforts are underway to re-form having folded in 2020 due to a lack of a chairman and manager.

However, it is hoped the club's return will be met warmly and key off the pitch roles are filled along with raising a team to compete in next season's JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League.

A club spokesman said: "We are trying to start the Rhandir back up but we will need the right kind of people.

"If you are enthusiastic, hardworking, and willing to volunteer then we need you, we have a number of rolls to be filled, including potentially the chairman, team manager or coach and treasurer."

The club was originally formed in 2013 and enjoyed several stellar years under the management of Gary Jones in the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League.

The club's planned return provides a massive boost to football in the town which, despite having the largest population of any town in Powys, has seen a decline in the number of clubs in the town with Newtown Wanderers, Newtown Rovers and Newtown Rangers all folding in the past 20 years along with the town's once vibrant Sunday League.
