NEWTOWN signed of 2023 with a battling 13-11 Admiral Division Two North derby win at home to Welshpool on Saturday.
Pool dominated much of the contest but were punished for failing to convert pressure into points as the home side claimed glory.
Connor Thornton's try and a penalty from Harry Davies saw Pool edge ahead at the break with Will Holloway keeping Town in contention with two penalties.

Davies added his second penalty after the break but Welshpool were stunned as Isaac Davies crossed for a late try with Holloway's conversion completing Newtown's win.
Pool coach Daley Jones said: "We dominated the fixture for 79 minutes but did not convert any of the pressure into real points and were punished by ill discipline.
A Newtown spokesman said: "Welshpool played really well and dominated a large chunk of the game. We had a chance at the end to nick it and took it."
Machynlleth battled to a 19-16 win at Mold IIs in division three.
Rhys Lewis, Kameron Simmonds-Sandy and Harri Vaughan crossed for tries with Iwan Jones landing two conversions.
Llandrindod Wells rounded off 2023 with a 32-10 win at Hirwaun in division five east central.
Aled Powell kicked an early penalty for the Spamen with Ali Welby and Mike Tully each crossing for tries with Powell converting one.
The Powys side sealed glory with second-half tries from Owen Price and a second from Welby with were both converted by Powell.
