A MAN with half a century of service to his local cub has been named the first ever winner of the Brian Kitson Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the Shropshire County Cricket League.

Richard Jones of Alberbury Cricket Club beat a host of rival nominations to take the award.

A league spokesman said: "We received a number of nominations from clubs around Shropshire and beyond, all highlighting just some of the work that so many volunteers do on behalf of their cricket clubs and beyond into the local community.

"It was a really tough decision with so many deserved nominees, but the eventual winner was Richard Jones from Alberbury Cricket Club.

"Richard was nominated by the club for his unwavering support and dedication at the club over the last five decades.

"Having played in the club’s senior sides, he has also been a key driver in the club’s junior development, setting up their women and girl’s section, welfare officer and grant co-ordinator, umpire, scorer, helping with the groundwork and more.

"The SCCL committee has agreed with Alberbury CC’s belief that Richard Jones embodies the spirit of the Brian Kitson Lifetime Achievement award with his steadfast commitment, selflessness, and dedication to Alberbury CC.

"His enduring legacy within our club is a testament to his extraordinary passion for the sport and its growth within our community”.

Richard will receive his award at the league annual meeting held at Harlescott Social Club on Tuesday, November 28th.

The league spokesman added: "We would like to re-iterate our thanks for the other nominations which really has highlighted the dedication of so many people in making sure we have so many fantastic club’s able to play in the SCCL every year."
