A HOST of Powys athletes have been selected to represent Wales at the 23rd British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships in Peebles, Scotland on Sunday, September 10th.
As ever the Newtown based Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club is well represented with four athletes while Brecon also provides one.
Mackenzie McCourt and Maddie Hughes will represent Wales in the women’s under 17s class.
Maddie Griffiths will compete in the women’s under 20s race and Aled Breeze will earn his Welsh vest in the men’s under 20s race.
Each are coached by Harrier coach Sharon Jones who praised the athletes, saying: "It is great to see four of our endurance team selected for the Welsh team that will compete in Peebles in September.
"These older athletes continue to be amazing role models for the younger generation within our thriving club."

Brecon’s Joseph Murray completes Powys interest in the men’s under 17s race and is coached by Derek Osborne.
Steve Mitchell, National Talent Coordinator for Endurance said: “Congratulations to all athletes selected to compete for Wales in the British and Irish Junior Mountain Home Nations.
“Following the success of the Welsh junior mountain team in the WMRA U18 Cup in Annecy in May, I look forward to seeing how the teams perform against the other home nations and wish them the best of luck in the competition.”
The Newtown based club has a well-earned reputation as one of the leading producers of athletics talent in the country with a host of future Welsh internationals emerging from the ranks over the years.
Among their most famous former athletes are Team GB marathon runner Andy Davies from Forden and Llanidloes raised hurdles star Lauren Williams with the current crop of young stars seeking to emulate the pair with international success of their own.
