THE county town of Montgomeryshire will host national league football in next season's Welsh third division.
While the town is most well known in Wales for its castle the town's football club also has a long history, tracing its roots to the late 19th century.
The club entered the Montgomeryshire League in 1906 and remained until 1910.
The club is recorded to be back in the Montgomeryshire League from 1934 until 1937 and returning in 1938.
Following the Second World War the club entered the Mid Wales League until 1950 and returned to the Montgomeryshire League.
The club won the Montgomeryshire League in 1953 and 1959, 1960 though had to wait until 1976 for their next title.
Montgomery returned to the Mid Wales in 1978 and enjoyed a decade spell before returning to the Montgomeryshire League until another stint in the Mid Wales League from 1994 until 1998.
The club endured several years of struggle with relegation to the second division of the Montgomeryshire League in 1999.
The club folded in 2006 and reformed in 2007 with new ambitions.
Montgomery joined the Mid Wales League second division in 2010 and won promotion in their first season.
The Canaries almost won the title in their first season in the first division only to fall short by a point to Rhayader Town in 2012 and to Llanidloes Town in 2013 before several years of struggle led to relegation in 2017.
The club returned to the first division last season and enjoyed a solid campaign under manager Luke Williams who has since stepped down.
The club is actively seeking a manager with applicants asked to contact Charlie Emberton on 01686668725 or Clive Tanner on 01686668668.
