POWYS’ very own Carrie Jones and Maria Francis-Jones each captained Wales in last week’s UEFA Under 16s girls development tournament in Slovenia.
Wales played three games, losing 3-1 to Sweden before losing 3-1 on penalties to Slovenia and ending their tournament with a 7-6 shoot-out defeat at the hands of Northern Ireland.
Newtown High School student Carrie Jones and Llanidloes High School’s Maria Francis-Jones have been part of the Wales under 17s set-up for the past 12 months.
The duo were joined in the Welsh squad by Newtown’s Libby Isaac and Malaysia based Lauren Purchase who qualifies through her Montgomeryshire born parents.
Meanwhile Welshpool High School’s Max Williams was part of the boys under 16s squad which took part in a development tournament in Bulgaria last week with games against the hosts, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg,
