The New Saints keeper and skipper Paul Harrison is predicting a tough test in Croatia tonight after he broke the Welsh PremierLeague record for European appearances. The veteran stopper made his 32nd appearance in the extra-time win over FC Europa last week, breaking former colleague Pip Baker’s record in the process.
Harrison says the tie against Belgian giants Anderlecht was his favourite, as well as the many wins, but also admitted he is hoping for many European appearances in the future.
“It depends on how long the manager wants me,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’ve got another two years here so hopefully there will be a few more European games on the horizon.
“Rijeka will be another tough one – they will be a different test than Europa.
“We’ll have to be more defensive but it’s another European game so we’ll see what it brings.
“My first appearance was against Ventspils in Latvia. I’d come in as a number two to Gerard Doherty but he was injured so I played the two games against them, which was good.
“I never realised what a journey it would take me on because I was pretty young at the time and Doherty was well-established here as the number one at the time.
“From that point I’ve played every game so I’ve been lucky.
“I’d have to say the Anderlecht game in 2010 was my favourite, but in terms of winning feelings, the other night against Europa or Bohemians the round before Anderlecht.
“They’re right up there because we won as we went through. But there are plenty of memories all the way through, such as Legia Warsaw in 2013.
“It’s good to keep it in the TNS family as I’ve taken the record from Pip Baker who took it from Scott Ruscoe.”
Harrison is set to take his place in goal tonight.
