WELSHPOOL Sharks have further underlined its reputation as one of the pools of Welsh swimming talent
14-year-old Meggie Thomas from Llanfyllin competed at the British Para championships in Swansea and achieved two big personnel best times to earn a place in this year’s Welsh Para performance squad.
Meggie will now travel to Swansea for sessions with the national Para squad.
Meanwhile clubmate Carys Morgan competed at the Welsh Winter/Commonwealth trials with swimmers competing from all over Britain.
After the success of Welsh swimming over the last year with a quarter of the Olympic squad being Welsh, the selection process was raised to its highest level.
The juniors are selected using junior European standards with selection times being set high.
The 13 year old Llanidloes High School student competed in six events and reached four finals while setting new personal best times in all events and attaining two selection times.
Carys won two bronze medals in the 50 and 200 Breaststroke to earn a place in the Welsh Performance foundation squad
Meanwhile Sharks Head Coach Steve Parker has been selected onto the Swim Wales ASPIRE coaching team and Welsh Para coaching team.
On the ASPIRE programme Steve with other coaches, will be responsible for raising the profile of north Wales swimming and coaching.
