The match kicks off at 2.30pm with a bumper attendance expected at the Recreation Ground on Pool Road.
A Newtown RFC spokesman said: “Welshpool have been going very well this season and are competing hard for the second automatic promotion spot to division one so it will be a tough test for our lads.

“Newtown have had some notable results this season but have lacked some consistency.
“However, the team are gaining experience and growing in confidence while a number of the squad still only playing their first season of senior rugby.
“Newtown Rugby Club would like to invite their supporters, along with Welshpool’s to come down, enjoy a cracking New year Derby clash and create a fantastic atmosphere.
“On behalf of everyone at NRFC and our club president Dai Davies, we send you season’s greetings and wish you all a very Happy New Year.”
Welshpool make the short trip down the A483 having enjoyed their best start to the season in many years having also enjoyed a solid run in the WRU Division Three Cup.
Coach Daley Jones said: “We are looking forward to visiting our neighbours which is always a physical affair.
“On current form Newtown have improved vastly and will offer a stern test across the park but we have also improved so it will be an intriguing contest.”
