MORE than 200 children from across the region took part in the Mid Powys Schools swimming galas last month.

Two regionalised rounds were held before a final saw young swimmers go head to head in the Mid Powys finals.

The galas were organised by Matthew Savage of DM PROcoach and began with the first rounds which saw school children from Llanidloes and Machynlleth compete while another competition was held for Newtown area schools.

The final was held at Newtown’s Maldwyn Leisure Centre and saw children from across Powys enjoy their first taste of gala competition.

Organiser Matt Savage was delighted with the standard of competition and praised the sponsors of the gala series.

He said: “Unfortunately Freedom and Sports Powys were unable to run it this year, so with the help of our sponsors Milwyn Jenkins & Jenkins and Morris, Marshall & Poole I was able to run it through my sports coaching business DM PROcoach.

“217 children in round one from 14 schools competed, with 131 qualifying for the finals at Maldwyn Leisure Centre.
