KNIGHTON Town Football Club hosted the latest in the season’s under eights tournaments last weekend.
Bryn-Y-Castell, home of the Radnor Robins, proved to be a fine stage for the future stars of mid Wales football to descend for a day of fun and friendly competition.
The festival was the latest under eights festival to be staged in Powys this season following a successful event held in Llanidloes last month.
The festivals have been well-supported as clubs, coaches and players welcome a return to the pitch after almost two years due to the ongoing global national health crisis which heavily impacted sport in most countries.
With the easing of restrictions across Wales the return of junior football festivals have been warmly welcomed.
Last weekend Knighton Town, Llanidloes Town, Llanfair United, Welshpool Town, Rhayader Town and Newtown all sent sides to the east Radnorshire for the latest junior festival as the club’s continue their phased return to competition.
The festivals are held on a non-competitive basis but all the players relished another chance to lace up their boots and represent their home clubs against their rivals.
The standard of play was high throughout the day and enjoyed by all who attended.
Further festivals are scheduled to take place next month when it is hoped even more players and clubs take part.
