A COUNCILLOR who has been re-elected as chairman of Llanfair Caereinion Town Council says he is honoured to be taking on the role for another year.
Councillor Wyn Williams said he is proud to have been re-elected by his fellow councillors, and hopes the council can focus on helping businesses in the town recover from the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He insists his main aim for the council during his tenure will be to work proactively to help the community of Llanfair.
Cllr Williams also outlined his hopes to push forward with plans for a new health centre in the town.
He said: "It’s an honour that they’ve elected me to be Chairman again.
"I’m very pleased and honoured.
"My main aim, for us as a council, is to help people to recover financially with their businesses and also to make sure we are proactive within the council and the community.
"An example of this is pushing forward to help some of the facilities we have in the area.
"We want to push things forward like the new health centre by assisting the council and everyone else to provide better facilities in our community."
One of the ways in which Cllr Williams is hoping to help businesses is by promoting the town ahead of an expected tourism surge.
Many destinations in the UK are expecting an influx of people visiting for staycations, with many still unsure about travelling abroad.
Cllr Williams hopes the town council can help businesses make the most of the possibility of a tourism boost.
He said: "As well as the new health centre, we have been lucky enough to have some heritage Lottery funding to assist with promoting the town.
"We want to promote local businesses by utilising the fact that people want to visit the area.
"There is expected to be more people opting for a staycation, and a lot of people who are not sure about going abroad will want to visit areas like ours with the views we have and the facilities we have."
