The owner of a food business in Powys said she was “saddened and sickened” to have her wagon vandalised while attending Newtown’s Christmas lights switch on.

On Saturday, November 30, Newtown welcomed the 2024 Santa Run and Christmas lights switch on, drawing several businesses for a busy day on the town’s high street.

Amid the festive events, catering business The Food Fairy had their business vandalised while parked on Newtown’s high street, sometime between 10pm and 11pm.

The damage included the trailer’s board lights being broken, as well as wiring in two places while another light was ripped off and found further up the street. An electrical input socket was also ripped off from the incident.

The owner of the business said: “It’s saddening and sickening that after getting through so much to get this business up and running and after such a great day at a big event, that someone would go out of their way to cause damage like this.

“I just keep asking why would anyone think that it’s acceptable to do that?

“But I had a very nice day apart from the vandalism. I met some amazing people and had some great feedback. It’s just disappointing to see that someone’s energy went into that damage.

“The Newtown lights atmosphere was fabulous, and I must admit that my fairy wagon and I getting a police escort home due to my not having any lights on my trailer was a fun end to the day.

“I won’t let silly people get me down. The damage has been fixed and I’m back on the road now, available for other catering jobs at other events in the area.”

Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that they had received a report on the incident and that enquiries are currently ongoing.
