A lorry collided with the barriers at a level crossing which closed the A470 trunk road between Newtown and Llandinam and delayed train journeys through Mid Wales for more than three hours.
The lorry driver was not injured in the single-vehicle collision at the Moat Lane level crossing near Caersws which was reported shortly before 10.30am on Monday (December 2).
Railway journeys along the Cambrian line were cancelled or “heavily” delayed with some trains having to run at a reduced speed. Network Rail staff were also at the scene assessing the damage before replacing the barriers on Monday afternoon.

Motorists were told by Dyfed-Powys Police to avoid the area while the trunk road was closed in both directions.
The closure led to nearby roads in villages such as Trefeglwys and Llandinam being “gridlocked” and other drivers and residents remarking on the high number of vehicles with one describing the situation as “nuts”.
It was confirmed by Traffic Wales shortly before 1.50pm that the road reopened in both directions, and by National Rail that trains between Newtown and Caersws stations were running normally following the collision.
