A POPULAR Radnorshire pub that underwent a stunning refurbishment and re-opened a year ago, has again announced it is to shut.

The Hundred House Inn revealed on Thursday afternoon (November 28) that the village pub will shut as of Friday.

“After much reflection, we have made the difficult decision to close the Hundred House Inn as of tomorrow,” owner Gareth Morris wrote in a post on the pub’s Facebook page.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has walked through our doors, shared a drink, enjoyed a meal, and created memories here.

“Thank you all for supporting us through these difficult times.”

The devastating news was greeted with sadness and sympathy, with 60 comments posted in the hours after the news was announced.

Sue Parry said: “Absolutely gutted for you Gareth and all your loyal staff and workers who put everything into making the Hundred House Inn [the] heart of our community again. Just gutted.”

“What a shame,” said Menna Jones, who had visited the pub while staying locally last weekend.

“We were there twice this last weekend having stayed just outside the village. We greatly admired the refurbishment and the food was lovely.”

Martin Tipples added: “Very sad to read after visiting this summer and seeing what a great refurb you had done and we loved the new food.

“Times are tough and thoughts to you and your team Gareth.”

Angela Kendrick said: “So sorry to hear this, we have had some wonderful times in there and the hospitality we received was second to none.”

Tracey Price said: “That’s a shame, but understand how difficult it must have been to make this decision. Everything seems to be stacking up against businesses these days.

“We had a lovely meal with you a few weeks ago and always a great atmosphere. Hopefully one day in the future it’ll be open again.”

It’s been a trying few years for the pub – located in the village of Hundred House, right on the side of the A481, not far from Builth Wells – since the pandemic.

Previous tenants decided to vacate the pub in October 2022, citing rising energy bills, which they said had left the pub “impossible to run on any level”.

Mr Morris, a local businessman, then bought it off the previous owners, and after an extensive facelift, which included a brand new landscaped garden and interior and exterior work, the pub re-opened last October.

There was a delay on the reopening of the kitchen, but the pub began serving food again in February this year.
