A "respected businessman who played a key role in Newtown's economy" has been remembered following his death aged 80.

Russel Bradley, the managing director of Bradleys' Garages in Newtown, Caersws and Llanidloes, died on October 18.

Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council recently paid tribute to Mr Bradley, who was also the owner of the Cross Buildings which house the town clock and bells, which are maintained by the town council.

In a statement, the town council said: "Your Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council would like to acknowledge with sadness the passing of Mr Russel Bradley, a respected businessman who played a key role in Newtown's economy.

"His dedication to local business has left a positive mark on the community and we extend our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues."

Mr Bradley had recently addressed a council committee about his plans to convert the floor above the former Barclays bank into flats.

Caersws Football Club also paid tribute to Mr Bradley following the death of their "loyal sponsor and great friend" who lived in Llanwnog.

"Russel over many, many years was kind sponsor of many playing kits from Juniors right through to our first team," the club said.

"In recent years Russ was the go-to man for any advice needed to run out football club as professionally as possible and we will be forever grateful.

"But most of all he was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by the whole community."
