Five Powys stations are among the least used in Wales, according to new figures.

The Office for Rail and Road has revealed the most and least used railway stations in Wales, based on the number of entries and exits between April 2023 and March 2024.

Llangynllo, Dolau, Garth, Cilmeri, and Sugar Loaf, all situated in Powys, are among the 10 least used stations in Wales.

These stations are all located on the Heart of Wales line.

Llangynllo recorded 780 entries and exits, Dolau had 828, Garth saw 838, Cilmeri had 874, and Sugar Loaf recorded 992.

The least used station in Wales was Roman Bridge, with just 680 entries and exits.

Transport for Wales has confirmed it will be reducing Heart of Wales line services from five through services to four per day from December 2024, and removing the two late evening services to Llandovery and Llandrindod.

Feras Alshaker, director of planning and performance at the Office of Rail and Road, said: "These statistics provide crucial insights for passengers, the rail industry and its stakeholders and demonstrate clearly how travel patterns are changing across the country.

"Alongside our rail usage statistics, they show that since the pandemic, rail usage continues to increase and that the investment put into the Elizabeth line is fundamentally reshaping passenger journeys into and around London."

The most used station in Wales was Cardiff Central, with 11.5 million entries and exits.

This was followed by Newport, with 2.7 million, and Swansea, with 2.2 million.

Nationally, the Office of Rail and Road confirmed that London Liverpool Street station retained its title as Great Britain's most-used railway station in 2023-24.

The station recorded 94.5 million entries and exits.

The busiest stations in England outside of London were Birmingham New Street (33.3m), Manchester Piccadilly (25.8m) and Leeds (24.9m).

The busiest stations in Scotland were Glasgow Central (25.0m), Edinburgh Waverley (21.3m) and Glasgow Queen Street (14.5m).

The least used station in Great Britain was Denton in Greater Manchester, with just 54 entries and exits.
