POLICE say no action will be taken, following an investigation into malicious communications made to pupils via social media at a Powys secondary school.
Brecon High School reported last week that pupils had been subjected to written comments and photographs on Tik Tok by an anonymous user, and had involved Dyfed Powys Police.
The school sent to parents/carers and Year 11 pupils – the latter being the students affected online – which it posted on its Facebook page on Thursday, November 14.
Interim headteacher Rob Edwards thanked parents and students for sharing concerns with the school – although Dyfed Powys Police has confirmed that it found no offences were committed.
“Dyfed-Powys Police were made aware of comments made on Tik Tok,” the force said in a statement on Friday afternoon.

“Officers found that no offences were committed, and safeguarding advice has been provided.
“The reporting person has been made aware and although no further enquiries are being carried out, are encouraged to report any further suspicious comments.”
In the letter, Mr Edwards said: “We have been made aware by students and parents that a number of Year 11 students have been subjected to malicious communications (written comments and photographs) on social media (Tik Tok) by an anonymous user.
“We understand that this will be distressing for victims of this type of communication and would like to thank parents and students for sharing these concerns with us. Our school values the relationship that there is between home and school.
“Current laws such as the 1988 Malicious Communications Act, 1997 Protection from Harassment Act and 2003 Communications Act can be used to protect individuals from malicious and threatening posts made on the internet.
“The school is working with the local authority safeguarding team, and the matter has been reported to Dyfed Powys Police who have encouraged parents and students affected to report the matter via 101.
“If any students have been affected by the communication, please can they report this to Mrs. Jones who will liaise with the wellbeing team in school to provide appropriate support.
“If you wish to discuss the matter further, please contact Mrs. Jones, Year 11 progress and guidance manager.”
Anyone affected by this can contact the school on 01874 622361 or email bhs@brecon-hs.powys.sch.uk.
