Derwenlas Community Centre has undergone a series of improvements over the past year.

The centre has benefitted from various enhancements, with more improvements planned for the future.

The Rotary Club of Machynlleth has played a significant role in these improvements, funding the removal of rubble and debris from the car park and the back of the property.

This has not only improved the parking area but also made the space behind the village hall safer and more useful for the community.

The club is also assisting the committee in finding ways to improve the surface of the outdoor area and has contributed funds to enhance the hall's lighting.

A recent volunteer event saw people come together to clear overgrown vegetation.

This was supported by a small grant from the Social Farms and Gardens 'Tyfu Powys' project, which also provided tools and refreshments.

This funding source will also supply raised planters and benches for gardening and leisure activities on the site.

A Shared Prosperity Fund grant, administered by Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO), paid for the installation of a 7.6kWp solar array and battery by Smart Energy Systems of Machynlleth.

This allows the community centre to benefit from solar electricity during the day and night.

The centre has also received grants from the Mid Wales Community Energy Trust ('Windfall'), which paid for thermal curtains and secondary glazing.

These improvements will reduce the amount of oil needed to heat the building and, along with the free solar electricity, will help keep hire charges affordable and reduce emissions.

Judith Alfrey, chair of Derwenlas Community Centre, said: "We are very grateful for all the support we’ve received, which is helping us make our community centre an even more welcoming place, as well as a more sustainable one.

"We are delighted with all the improvements we’ve been able to make inside the hall, and now we’re looking forward to putting our outdoor space to good use too."
