One person has died and two drivers have been arrested following a fatal car crash near Welshpool on Saturday evening.
Three cars - a red BMW X3, blue Audi S4, and white Toyota Yaris – collided on the A483 in Belan at around 6.15pm.
The driver of the white Toyota Yaris, who was travelling southbound, died at the scene.
A child passenger in the same car was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Two men, aged 29 and 33, who were travelling in the opposite direction to the Toyota, have both been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The 29-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
The road was closed overnight while specialist collision investigators carried out their enquiries.
Two air ambulance crews, one from Welshpool and the other from Cardiff, arrived on the scene at 6.36pm. It's understood that at least one of the helicopters travelled to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool before the charity's involvement ended at 10.25pm.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.23pm on Saturday, November 16, to a road traffic collision in Welshpool.
"We sent an emergency ambulance where crews were supported by an advanced paramedic practitioner and an ambulance officer. Advanced critical care support was delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity helicopter.
"One patient was taken to hospital by helimed for further treatment.”
The road between the Berriew turning and the Sarnybryncaled roundabout on the outskirts of Welshpool re-opened in both directions at 9.50am on Sunday morning after it was closed for almost 16 hours.
