A BLOW has been issued to plans for a new food business on the Powys border.

Applicant Susan Herdman submitted a planning application to Herefordshire Council for a new food van to be sited on land at 1 Waterloo Road in Kington in September.

OTHER NEWS:

The site is described in the application as a "former industrial site", with the application saying it has been long abandoned and is now mostly demolished.

Works to the site will include installing post and rail fencing in treated timber around the site boundary, the application said, while the existing concrete and tarmac hardstanding will be transformed with scalpings.

There are also plans for a seating area, with a chain rope and bollard boundary, while the van would employ two part-time employees.

The application said no new access was needed to the site, while eight parking spaces would be provided.

But now Kington Town Council has said it is unable to support the application due to a lack of information on which to make a decision.

In comments submitted to Herefordshire Council, a Kington Town Council spokesperson said there appears to be a lack of "adequate provision" for customer parking, while also commenting on the lack of toilet facilities.

The town council said there was little information on the proposed landscaping of the site, "suggesting a poor visual impact" on the area, and requested a photograph or mock-up of the proposed van.

Kington Rural and Lower Harpton Group Parish Council has also commented, saying that while it has no objections, it "would be prudent" if there were toilets available, as the town toilets are "difficult to access and are in the middle of the town".

The application is yet to be decided.
