Newtown has been named as the best place in the UK to pass a driving test, topping a recent report.
A look at the best and worst driving test centres in the UK by financial services comparison company GoCompare saw the north Powys test centre come out on top.
Newtown Driving Test Centre, found at Ladywell House, was at the top of the report with a 72.5 per cent pass rate, just beating out the second, third and fourth spots which were all driving test centres in Scotland.
Commenting on the findings, Tom Banks, motoring expert at GoCompare said: “Learning to drive and taking your driving test can be a really exciting, but also stressful experience.

“While there are a number of factors which could affect your test on the day, this report reveals that where you take your test could make a difference too.
“Pass rates across the country can really vary, with just over 7 in 10 passing their tests in Newtown but less than 4 in 10 in Wolverhampton.
“According to the numbers, the top 10 best places to pass your test seem to be dominated by rural areas, and while relocating just to pass your driving test isn’t a feasible idea, it may be worth considering a few options when it comes to deciding where to take your test.
“Take a look and compare the pass rates at your local test centres, and chat through your options with your driving instructor.”
The Newtown centre was also recognised as one of the UK's best in an earlier report from 2024, when DayInsure, one of the UK’s leading providers of short term car insurance, named Newtown as being one of the ten best driving test centres in the UK back in June by its pass rates.
Their study put Newtown seventh in the UK and gave it the number one spot for centres in Wales, reporting that it had a 66.7 per cent pass rate.
