A POWYS band will play their final gig of 2024 next week, ahead of heading back into the studio to record their second album.
Shop Front Heroes, whose members hail from across Radnorshire, including Knighton, Knucklas and New Radnor, will be playing Shrewsbury’s Yorkshire House pub next Tuesday, November 19.
“We’ll be taking a break from playing live soon in order to fully focus on the writing of our second album,” the band announced on its Facebook page.
“Creativity has been flowing in the last month and it’s coming along swimmingly.
“We’ll be playing a mix of old and new at our final gig of the year as we make our debut at Yorkshire House pub, Shrewsbury, on Tuesday, November 19.”
The band, fronted by Llandrindod Wells-born and Knighton-raised Stevie Yeomans, formed in 2017 and released debut album ‘SuperPowers’ nearly a year ago.
They raised money locally to put ‘SuperPowers’ together, including borrowing funds off a local business to record the album at the iconic Rockfield Studios, near Monmouth, which has hosted acts such as Queen, Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, Robert Plant and Coldplay.
The band is made up by lead guitarist Jake Owen and drummer Matt Whitehouse, both from Knighton; guitarist Tom Jaques, who lives in New Radnor; and bassist Alex Middleton, who is from Shropshire.
One of the hits from ‘SuperPowers’ was the poignant third single, ‘Caer Bryn’, written about a former childhood home in Powys that Stevie has a deep affection for, and which featured a cameo from Rhayader Male Voice Choir, who visited Rockfield Studios to help the band add a different layer to the track.
