A MOTORCYCLE rider admits he showed “a lack of judgment” after he was clocked riding at more than 110 miles per hour on a Powys road.

Michael Baylis, 61, told court this week that he “should know better” at his age, after he was stopped for speeding near Brecon.

Baylis’ speed on the Brecon bypass on the morning of May 12 was recorded as 113mph.

He admitted one charge of speeding online, but appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 5, as he wanted to plead his case to the bench.

The A40 road where Baylis was stopped is a dual carriageway, where the speed limit is 70mph. Magistrates told him he was going “excessively fast”.

The court heard Baylis has an outstanding 3 points on his licence from a 2022 speeding offence.

Speaking in his own defence, Baylis, of Staverton Way, Kingswood, Bristol, admitted his speed was excessive.

“I showed a lack of judgment,” he said.

“I have travelled 3,000 miles since then, in France and Italy, without any misdemeanour.

“I can only apologise for going that fast to other road users. It is easier to do so on a bike.

“I showed a lack of judgment as I need my licence for my HGV licence. A disqualification would affect my employment, as I drive with work for an electrics firm, although I am not driving full-time.
