A search and rescue service who save multiple lives in Powys are looking for new kit for their female volunteers.

Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team have said they are fundraising for new equipment to help kit out their growing number of female volunteers.

The team have been fundraising for a new set of equipment for the service which will include “essential waterproof gear” that will allow them to tackle the roughest of Welsh weather.

As well as this the new equipment would allow them to buy in “female specific kit”.

A spokesperson Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team said: “The money isn’t just enabling us to get new waterproofs for the team but it’s allowing us to get female specific kit for our growing number of female team members.

“So far, our waterproofs have been men’s fit or unisex but that isn’t always suitable for the women on the team.

“Buying the new kit gives an opportunity for team members to make sure the kit they have fit and is appropriate for the hill.”

The fundraiser is aiming to collect £25,000 to help pay for the new equipment with ony about half that total having been currently donated.

In the fundraiser the teams said “In 2023, we responded to 53 callouts, totalling 1266 volunteer hours. We assist everyone from local dog walkers, school groups on DoE, and international tourists, to mountain bikers, hikers and climbers.

“We've dealt with everything from sprained ankles to medical emergencies, life-threatening injuries, and fatalities, often in the most treacherous weather conditions imaginable.”

They added “Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team is 100 per cent volunteer-run and 100 per cent funded by donations. We receive no direct government funding. Every pound you donate goes directly towards purchasing new essential kit for the team.

“Your contribution, no matter how small, makes all the difference to our ability to serve our community and visitors to our beautiful region.”
