TICKETS for the popular Rhayader Round the Lakes Race have sold out – less than a month after going on sale.

Places remain available for the 10km event, but organisers announced last week that all 600 places in the longer 30km race had gone – mere weeks after they were made available to purchase. Even the waiting list for the 30km race is now full.

Organisers said that any transferred places must be done by February 7 next year, with the 2025 race taking place on St David’s Day, Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Organisers only released tickets on Friday, October 4, with more than half of the  places in the main 30km (18.6-mile) race snapped up soon after.

An additional 200 spaces are available for the shorter 10km route.

The 30km route takes runners out of town and around the beautiful Elan Valley dams, while the 10km race takes runners over a shorter distance up to the Elan Valley and back.

The 30k race runs through the picturesque countryside of the Elan Valley, over one of the most scenic courses in the UK. The route is challenging and exposed to the weather especially on the higher parts of it – with runners met by a blizzard on the highest point this year.

The start and finish for both races next year will be at the Smithfield, North Street, Rhayader. The 10km will start at 11.15am, with the 30km getting underway at 11.30am.

The race, organised by Rhayader Running Club and run entirely by volunteers, began life as a 20-mile event back in 1984, as a response to the London Marathon, which began a few years earlier.

A 5-mile race was introduced shortly afterwards and was replaced by the 10km in 2021.
