I THINK Dolerw Park is a jewel.
No other town in Powys has a park at its centre which is a a home from home for so many.
The park polices itself to a certain point with responsible dog owners the majority.
I must say it is disappointing when parents and children playing ball games proclaim ownership of the park and even demand dogs are put on leads.
A few weeks ago I watched a family, including football playing youngsters, demand a puppy which, was drawn to the sight of a ball, be put on a lead as their children were scared of dogs.

It did not matter that the entire park was full of dogs off leads and this family felt it was in the right.
Surely some common sense is needed here.
Does Dolerw Park have goals? The answer is no then surely a sensible person will accept it is not somewhere to go and play football with the expectation of not meeting dogs off leads.
Similarly, no responsible dog owner would let their pet off its lead on a park with goals.
This is a good rule of thumb for anyone venturing out to use parks either to walk their dogs, walk themselves or play football.
The irony is this family was sat across the river from Trehafren Field where goals remain in place for anyone wishing to use them.
