Residents in a street in Llandrindod Wells have raised complaints after changes to the road led to flooding and damage to vehicles.

Residents on Wellington Road in Llandrindod Wells have voiced their anger after changes to the road after the building of an active travel route narrowed the road and caused flooding for the first time in three decades.

Paul Bennett who has been living on the street for 35 years has said that this is the first time they have had to deal with such issues.

“The work has been ongoing now since about July,” said Mr Bennett. “The problem is because they have increased the width of the pavement and it’s changed the camber of the road.

“Now they have done the bottom part all the water is running into the houses.

“We’re lucky our house isn’t too bad but next door was flooded as were a few others. I’ve been here 35 years and we have never had floods like it.”

The water which washed off the road caused trouble for various houses with some seeing their gardens flooded but others saw water enter their properties after the heavy rain earlier in the month.

“Our front garden was flooded for the first time,” said Mr Bennett . “The next door neighbour was also flooded and so was the cellar, the guy up the road, he was paddling in water.”

This is not the only issue as the widening of the path for the active travel route has also narrowed the road.

“We have been banging our head against a brick wall,” said Mr Bennett.

“They have narrowed the road and now there isn’t room for two cars.

"When we had the meeting about it we were told that we’ll use your vehicles as active traffic management so they will slow down and they can’t get past.

“That was OK for a couple of weeks but now one of my neighbours have had their wing mirror knocked off already.

“We’re lucky as we are able to park off the road but no one else is.”

The work has been undertaken by the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency who have said there has been no narrowing of road.

A Welsh Government spokesperson said: “The Active Travel Plans for this location were subject to a wide public consultation, with changes made in response to comments .

“The original road width has actually been maintained through a widening of the carriageway into the opposite verge to create a shared use path.

"The design has also allowed for on street parking to remain at the location.”
