One person was taken to hospital after a three-vehicle crash on the A470 in Powys.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that a casualty needed to be taken to hospital after the crash which saw a person released from their vehicle by fire crews this afternoon (October 23).

Police have confirmed a van and two cars were involve in the collision which closed a third section of the A470 in Powys this afternoon after another crash near Llangurig.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Police attended a three-vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at about 2.50pm, Wednesday 23rd October 2024.

“A white Vauxhall van, a silver Ford Kuga and a blue Suzuki SX4 were involved in the collision on the A470 near Newbridge on Wye.

“One person was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

“The road was closed with one lane reopening at 3.35pm.”

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they needed to use tools to help paramedics free a person who was trapped in one of the vehicles.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 2.47pm on Wednesday, October 23, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew from Llandrindod Wells Fire Station was called to an incident along the A470 near Newbridge-on-Wye in Powys.

“Crew members responded to a road traffic collision involving two private motor vehicles and one light van.  Five casualties were involved in the collision, with one casually medically trapped.  Crew members assisted paramedics in releasing the casualty using small tools.

“This incident required a multi-agency response, with Dyfed-Powys Police and the Ambulance Service also in attendance.”
