Plans to expand a Powys caravan site by adding more than 20 new pitches have been submitted to the county council.

A caravan park in southern Powys, by the county border, has submitted an application for planning permission to Powys County Council, looking to expand the site by adding 21 additional pitches for static caravans.

The business is Borders Hideaway Holiday Home Park, near Hay on Wye, with their application being validated on October 9 and is now awaiting a decision by the council’s planning department.

The application says: “Borders Hideaway Holiday Home Park is a caravan park business which has a range of static caravans, touring caravans and camping facilities. The Borders Hideaway holiday park is a multi- award winning park with a five star rating from Visit England, Gold David Bellamy and Loo of The Year Awards.

“The applicant is seeking to further develop this site to grow the business by extending the site by stationing an additional 21 static caravans.

“The owners have owned the site since 2007 and are seeking to provide significant long- term investment to provide additional holiday accommodation at the park. This would be delivered in phases over a period of time and is to be available for people wanting to secure a plot for the longer term for their repeat visits to the site.”

The proposal has already gone through a pre-application engagement with Powys County Council and a visit to the proposed site by the council’s planning officer.

The council response said: “Having carefully considered the proposed development, it is considered that the principle of a change of use from a camp site for tents to an extension to existing static caravan holiday park for the stationing of 33 additional static caravans and associated development would be likely to be supported by Development Management should an application be submitted.”

While the application was originally for 33 caravans, council advice saw the business revised the proposal and lower the number of new pitches to 21.

They added: “As a result of the positive pre- application advice received from Powys Council, requirements of technical reports and comments received from the withdrawn application for 31 static caravans a revised final layout has been agreed.

“The proposed development now comprises of the siting of 21 additional static caravans for holiday use on the land adjacent to the existing caravans.”
