A "severely beaten" man who kicked and bit a police officer in hospital will be sentenced in court next month.

Leather, of Huyton, near Liverpool, pleaded guilty to the assault by beating of an emergency worker when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, October 15.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said the police officer had since changed his role "due to the effect the assault has had on him".
Robert Hanratty, defending, said Leather was in a "state of shock and disarray" when he was admitted to hospital.
The solicitor told magistrates that his client didn't recall biting and kicking the police officer.

He added: "It's in the best interest to do a pre-sentence report; it needs to be done properly."
Magistrates ordered that a pre-sentence report from the probation service must be ready by the next hearing which will be on November 5.
Leather was granted unconditional bail to return to court for sentencing.
