A young woman in fulltime employment will not be allowed to drive for a year after she was caught drug driving in Newtown.
Seren Partington, 22, pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of cannabis when she appeared at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, October 15.
A blood test found that she had 2.8 microgrammes of the illegal drug delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, a metabolite of cannabis, which was over the legal 2mcgm limit.
The court was told that police stopped a car driven by Partington in the Meadow View area of Treowen just after 4.30pm on April 30.
The 22-year-old, who had no previous convictions, was arrested after a roadside drug swipe gave a positive result.
In mitigation, defence solicitor Robert Hanratty said there was no road safety issue in relation to the police stop.
"This is her first and, I'm confident to say, her only time in court," he said.
"The loss of her licence is fairly significant.

"There was no road safety aspect in this particular case or inability to drive a car.
"This is a bit of a harsh lesson for her."
Magistrates banned Partington, of Lôn Dolafon, Vaynor, Newtown, from driving for 12 months. She must also pay the court £1,017 which includes a £666 fine for the offence.
