Police have reopened a busy main road between Welshpool and Berriew this morning (Thursday) following a collision and flooding in the area.

Motorists were told by Dyfed-Powys Police to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Traffic Wales said the A483 was closed in both directions due to a crash between Welshpool and Berriew. It is understood that a van crashed into a hedge.

Police are asking motorists to be patient on the roads with delays along the B4388 between Montgomery and Forden due to flooding.

"Please be patient and take an alternative route if possible or plan extra time into your journey," Dyfed-Powys Police added.

There are currently 11 flood warnings in place along the River Severn in north Powys which, according to Natural Resources Wales (NRW), means 'immediate action is required'.

People in the those areas are advised by NRW to move family, pets and valuables to a safe place; turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if it is safe to do so; and put flood protection equipment in place.
