KNIGHTON Carnival committee will be hosting a bonfire and fireworks evening next month – but organisers say the future of the summer event is in jeopardy without more volunteers.
The committee says it is “desperate” for more bodies, but new volunteers need only commit to an hour a month in order to attend meetings, in order to keep the popular August spectacle going.
“We are eternally grateful to our amazing volunteers – however if we don't get more people power, our show will be in jeopardy,” said Knighton Carnival and Show secretary, Louise Hardwick.
“In order for our show to continue we are in desperate need of volunteers to come and support.
“Our stalwart committee members and volunteers have a limit as to what they can do, if even a few more people committed to an hour a month to attend meetings and help to create the show you want to have, then it would help enormously.

“Currently, we need volunteers for our horticultural/craft committee – this is approximately 5 meetings a year, about an hour each.
“Help is required to organise the show hall entries, preparation and plan for the day.”
Other jobs and positions required to help the carnival run smoothly relate to the carnival day itself.
“We need committed man power to come and help us on the day,” added Louise.
“This includes stewards to monitor and direct traffic on the field (during set up and then once the show has closed); help with setting up and to direct vendors to their pitches; handing out schedules/maps; gate staff; stewards to support with processions (day and night); help with organising and running kid's races; support with litter picking and litter bins overflow on the day and day after; and help to pack away after the show (the day after).”
The committee’s bonfire night is scheduled to take place at Llanshay Lane on Friday, November 8, starting at 6.30pm. Entry will be £6 for adults, £3 for children, with a family ticket available for £20.
Admission is cash and card, with a bar also cash and card, but a burger van will be cash only. All proceeds will go towards funding the 2025 carnival.
If you have some spare time and would like to get involved with your carnival, reach out to organisers. Contact them via email at knightonshowsecretary@gmail.com or ring 07805 722237 to offer your support.
Pop along to the carnival committee’s next committee meeting, which will be the AGM, to be held on Thursday, November 21, at 7.30pm, at the RAFA Club, Knighton, to see what it's all about.
