THE owners of a Powys guest house have thanked the “amazing” local community, after announcing that they are leaving the area.

Tony and Sandra Tye have run Bronwye Guest House in Builth Wells for the last seven years. The couple took over the building, nestled in the centre of town and overlooking the picturesque Groe area, in July 2017. They are selling up and moving back to their home area of Kent.

“As one chapter ends, a new one begins......Tony and Sandra are departing from Bronwye and moving back to Kent,” the couple said in a post on the B&Bs Facebook page earlier this month.

“We have had such a great time living and working in Builth Wells. We have met many people from all over the world and the local community have been amazing.

“We will miss all of the friends we have made but will no doubt be back to visit in the future.

“Thank you everyone for making us so welcome and we wish Sian and Eifion all the best for their next chapter too.”

The post attracted scores of well wishers, with incoming owner Sian Jones saying: “Wishing you both good luck for the future and thank you so much for your help and support while handing over.”

Kevin Thorne added: “Sorry to hear you are leaving. Thank for allowing my wife and I to stay during Covid. Your kindness was very appreciated. All the best for the future.”

Jo Jones, who runs The Owls guesthouse in town, thanked Tony and Sandra for their help and support over the years, while fellow guesthouse owner Eileen Coyle said it had “been a pleasure” knowing and working alongside Tony and Sandra.

Tony and Sandra first revealed they were planning to sell up earlier this year, as they wanted to move back home for family reasons.

“We've built up a really successful business here and we love living in Builth so will be sad to leave,” they said.

Tony and Sandra have certainly been a great addition to the town. The guesthouse has been popular with runners who come to Builth every Saturday for Groe Park Run.

They have been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Tripadvisor and are the highest rated accommodation in Builth Wells on the Visit Wales website.
