Newtown’s Christmas lights switch-on event will be back in the town centre on Saturday, November 30.
The Town Council is excited to announce that the ‘Kicking off Christmas 2024’ event returns to bring the community together, marking the start of the Christmas season.
After seeking expressions of interest from organisations interested in delivering this year’s event, a recent town council meeting was told that one event company had been in touch, and are now in discussion on how to progress the event.

“Overall, the event is progressing according to schedule, with only minor delays that are being actively managed,” the town council was told. “The focus for the coming weeks is finalising partnerships, vendors, and ensuring all logistical aspects are ready for the event day.”
The meeting was also told that having two venues - The Park lawn and High Street - was “becoming difficult to manage”.
The town council heard that the challenges were segregating the public, safety and traffic issues with people crossing the roads, and whether a stage was needed at each venue.
