WE ARE regularly told we need to do more to support local businesses.
However, how can we do that when these businesses are closed for an entire working day.
A Monday stroll through Newtown and you will the Elephant and Castle, the Castle Vaults and Social 23 closed if you fancied a pub lunch. (The Elephant and Castle has asked that we point out it is open for breakfast, as a hotel throughout the day, and as a pub from 4.30pm on a Monday).
OTHER NEWS:

- Driver killed in single-vehicle crash on A483 in Powys
If you wanted to get a coffee, Evans, once the staple of Newtown’s Broad Street, is closed.
Of course that still means you have a few cafes dotted about the town centre and we must all be thankful Hafan yr Afon opened on Back Lane car park or diners would be queuing out of the door for Newtown’s other cafes.
We can all appreciate times are tough but the idea a business could close on a weekday seems insane to me, especially when the nationals are open and often offering more reasonable prices and deals for the economically pressed majority.
