SOME work to improve walking and cycling routes between Llandrindod Wells and Howey has been completed, with the overall project on schedule, organisers have said.
Footpaths along the A483 between the spa town and neighbouring village have been widened, as part of phase two of the Llandrindod Wells Active Travel Scheme.
Traffic Wales announced on Tuesday, October 8, that footways have been widened, base and pavement flags have been installed and preparatory work for resurfacing has all been finished as part of the work.
“A new crossing and surface will be installed on Ridgebourne Drive next, with the scheme currently on schedule,” said Traffic Wales.

Phase 2 of the Active Travel Scheme, aimed at improving pedestrian and cycle access between towns and villages in Powys, began in June – although there has been plenty of criticism from local residents that such schemes are a waste of resources.
“Just because money is available it shouldn’t be spent on projects that no-one wanted or needed in the first place,” said Jamie Jones, a Llandrindod town councillor.
In the letter from the NMWTRA, the completion date for Phase 2 is set as October 31.
