A pre-school in Powys is celebrating a glowing Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) report, which described it as “excellent” in all fields following an inspection.

Staff at Berriew Pre-School, near Welshpool, have said they “could not be more proud” of a positive report from CIW after an inspection was carried out at the pre-school earlier this year.

The organisation reviews and inspects local authorities that provide care for children and adult social services, reporting on the effectiveness of the services, similarly to how Estyn inspects and reports on schools.

Reviewing the children’s day care service in Berriew, the report broke down its inspection and findings into several categories; well-being, care and development, environment, as well as leadership and management.

The report rated the service as “excellent” in every category, an achievement a spokesperson for the pre-school said they “could not be more proud of”.

Summarising their inspection of the pre-school, the CIW report said: “Children are extremely happy and settled at the service. Children have plenty of support to learn through their play and to develop their independence. They are thriving emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually.

“Staff fully understand their roles and responsibilities to keep children safe and healthy. They are suitably qualified and have an excellent understanding of child development, children’s behaviour is therefore very good.
