A cafe found between Welshpool and Newtown that aims to be “the ultimate brunch destination” has won a Powys Business Award.

After exceeding its initial goals since it was launched in 2022, Greenhouse Cafe & Kitchen in Garthmyl has picked up the Start Up Business Award, sponsored by EvaBuild, at the Powys Business Awards.

Judges at the awards ceremony, held at Dering Lines, Brecon, said the award celebrates rapid success and bright future of the business.

Originally aiming to serve 75 customers during low season, the business has now found itself serving over 200 meals a day and has hosted four evening events, which the awards jury felt showed its versatility and potential as an enterprise.

Lewis King, owner of Greenhouse Cafe & Kitchen, said: “It’s an absolute honour to win this award which recognises the staff for all the work they put in. I’d like to thank Marcus and Clare King without whom this would not have been possible.

Lauren Jones, marketing officer for the business, added: “By adhering to a well-researched business plan, exceeding initial goals, focusing on customer needs and maintaining robust financial controls, we are well-positioned for continued growth and success.
