The 72nd Llanwrtyd Eisteddfod celebrated local talent at Victoria Hall.

Former Ysgol Dôlafon headteacher, Gill Lloyd, led the morning session featuring local children.

Magi Gwen Davies, from Beulah, was awarded the cup for the most outstanding competitor, presented by Dr Delyth Hurley of Cardiff.

Iori Hughes of Llanwrtyd took home the Foundation Phase Cup, given by Alison Underhill, also a former teacher at Ysgol Dôlafon.

The morning session also saw Andrea Moore from Llandovery adjudicating the art, writing, and handwriting competitions.

Young competitors from a wider catchment area participated in the afternoon session, which was conducted by Elin Mabbutt.

Esyllt Thomas of Mynachlog-ddu and Tudur Dylan Jones of Carmarthen, who served as adjudicators, awarded the Charcroft Electronics Ltd Cup to Ioan Joshua Mabbutt of Aberystwyth.

Charcroft Electronics Ltd has been a longstanding sponsor of the Llanwrtyd Eisteddfod.

The Eisteddfod’s presidents this year were Elfed Jones and Bryn Davies.

Mr Davies, a former headteacher at Ysgol Dôlafon, presided over the morning session.

He praised the committee members for their hard work in organising the annual event. 

Mr Jones, the evening president, was unable to attend but sent his best wishes in a letter read by the chairman, Hywel Davies.

Steve Mason conducted the evening session, where Robert Jenkins won both the Champion Solo and Welsh Solo competitions.

Elan Mari Mabbutt of Aberystwyth secured first prize in the Champion Solo Recitation.

Gwyn Jones of Llanafan won the Hymn Tune Solo Over-60, while Ioan Joshua Mabbutt won both the Solo from a Musical and the Hymn Tune Solo 18-60.

The Bechgyn Bro Taf choir, led by Richard Vaughan, made their first appearance at the Llanwrtyd Eisteddfod and won the choir competition.

Simon Lilly of Cefngorwydd was named the winning bard for his poem, 'Miracle'.

Originally from Solihull, Warwickshire, Mr Lilly has lived in Cefngorwydd with his wife Sue for a decade.

Mr Lilly, a renowned local artist, regularly exhibits his work at the Llanwrtyd and District Heritage and Arts Centre.

He draws inspiration from early Welsh poets such as Taliesin and works like Llyfr Du Caerfyrddin / The Black Book of Carmarthen.

Congratulations were also extended to Hannah Roberts of Cardiff, who came second.

Special thanks were given to Heather Davis, the accompanist for the morning session, and Jonathan Morgan, the accompanist for the afternoon and evening sessions.

Next year’s Llanwrtyd Eisteddfod is scheduled for Saturday, September 27.
