A NEWTOWN man will be sentenced at the crown court in the new year for carrying an offensive weapon and injuring a police officer.
Ben Ralph, 27, was due to be sentenced for possessing a crowbar and assaulting Dyfed Powys Police officer, Sergeant Coburn, in Newtown on July 9 this year, at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, October 3.
However, Judge Nic Parry said he would delay sentencing until January 2025 as Ralph has a trial for other matters in the crown court, due to start on January 22.
Ralph pleaded guilty to both carrying the offensive weapon in Newtown’s Robin Square and injuring the officer by kicking him at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on September 10.
Rob Hanratty, defending him, said Ralph was on remand at HMP Berwyn while waiting for the trial to start over a separate case dating from about the same time.
Judge Parry told Ralph on Thursday: “I will put these matters off until January 22, so if you’re sentenced you will be dealt with this then and any time on remand will count towards your sentence.”
He adjourned the hearing and further remanded Ralph until next January.
