The Michelin Guide has published its list of the best-rated hotels in Britain, with Wales represented on the list.

Known for publishing ratings for excellence in restaurants, the Michelin Guide has now published its brand-new distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in the UK and Ireland on October 1, 2024.

Like the Michelin Stars for restaurants, Michelin Keys are meant to represent what the guide considers the most outstanding hotels in the UK, with ratings of Three, Two or One given to a number of especially outstanding hotels.

Two that are not far from mid Wales achieved a One Key rating from the Michelin Guide, Palé Hall Hotel & Restaurant in Llandderfel near Bala and Penmaenuchaf in Dolgellau.

OTHER NEWS:

Which hotels make the list and earn the coveted rating is decided by the guide’s inspectors, who look at excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value in relation to the price and a significant contribution to the neighbourhood or setting.

Describing Penmaenuchaf, the guide said: “To those not fluent in Welsh its name might be a mouthful, but that’s the only difficult thing about Penmaenuchaf.

“This Victorian country-house hotel is set on the south side of Snowdonia National Park, and the genteel coziness of its interiors is a fine complement to the rugged beauty of the landscape.

“The rooms have been updated and look fresh as can be, though they remain antique in their style; some include fireplaces, Jacuzzis, or balconies, and all have views of the verdant surroundings.

"The restaurant’s head chef, Thomas Hine, is a veteran of several Michelin-starred kitchens.”

Pale HallPale Hall (Image: TripAdvisor) In describing Pale Hall, the guide also said: “Palé Hall is a destination for quiet retreat, comfort and culinary indulgence.

"Situated in the tranquil Dee valley, this grand, historic, high Victorian mansion has an idyllic woodland garden rolling down to the banks of the river. And, the spectacular Snowdonia National Park is at your doorstep during your stay!

“The hotel features eighteen luxurious, individually styled bedrooms with sumptuous décor, each with a beautifully appointed bathroom. In addition there are four charming garden suites situated within the estate grounds.

“Expect to enjoy exceptional standards of service in a friendly, informal and relaxing atmosphere. Henry Robertson, the restaurant, has been awarded a Michelin Green Star.”
